This piece was commissioned by a collector based on a photograph of her son next to his beloved Montreal canal. After pondering the photograph, I decided to force the perspective a bit to make the composition more interesting.

Custom portraits make unique and meaningful gifts. Diane wrote to me after the holidays to tell me that when she saw the painting, she couldn't quite believe how much it looked like her son, and that he absolutely loved it and so did his wife.

Good photography is needed to commission a painting, particularly if looking for a strong likeness with a subject. Sometimes it's best if you can provide a few different options to choose from, as there may be one that suits being painted better than others.
